One minute everything is fine, I’m running freely, thinking of my next challenge. 3 months later I’m trying to remember a time I could run without pain. Shin splints have been the thing keeping me from pushing the limits running lately, but finally it seems I may be clear of the issue.
When I first felt pain in my shins I thought I was just being a bit soft and thought with rest it would be all okay, after 2 weeks of limping while walking I decided to see a GP, which lead to a series of false diagnosis and wasted time. Finally I seen a massage therapist who diagnosed and started treatment on my shin splints. Getting the shin splint massaged was extremely painful but the advantage of was I now knew what I was up against.
Part of my recovery involved the use of a product that I’d never heard of but now are often singing its praise on Instagram. The product is a Dr.Cool Ice + Compression wrap which I got from CoolCore Australia
If you haven’t seen or heard of it, time to check it out. Basically you run the wrap under some water, place it in the fridge for about an hour then wrap it around the problem area. For the next 20 minutes the area is getting the ice whilst you can continue with your regular routine with the added benefit of compression.
Also, for recovery that can’t be beat, I was able to freeze the wrap overnight, store it in an insulated cooler bag and after running the Spartan Super obstacle course I was applying the wrap within 10 minutes of crossing the finish line meaning I was in recovery mode whilst volunteering in the afternoon.
The number of people in my social network who now use the wrap as part of their recovery is constantly increasing, as is the range of products on offer at CoolCore. I’ve also been using the CoolCore towel which is another awesome product with the ability to help the cooling down process without the use of chemicals, all natural, and if I’m completely honest, baffles me with how it works.
After using the compression wrap for the past couple of months I’m currently walking pain free for the first time in 5 months, and hopefully will be running pain free very soon. Once that occurs you’ll start to see some of the events I will be entering and hopefully a whole new set of accomplishments.
Until next time I’ll be feet up in recovery with help from my Dr.Cool wrap.
